You Can Now Climb Yosemite’s Famous El Capitan on Google Maps

Google launches the first-ever “vertical Street View”, giving you the chance to climb 3,000 ft up Yosemite’s world famous “El Capitan”.

On June 24, 2015, Google launched their first-ever vertical Street View, giving you the opportunity to climb 3,000 feet up the world’s most famous rock wall: Yosemite’s El Capitan.

To bring this new imagery, Google partnered with legendary climbers Lynn Hill, Alex Honnold and Tommy Caldwell. Check out the incredible behind-the-scenes video below.

In this beautiful capture by David Kingham we see the famous ‘Tunnel View’ in Yosemite National Park, California. For many of the park’s visitors, this is one of the first views they see as they enter Yosemite Valley.

While the valley only represents about 1% of the park area, it is a very popular location where many of the visitors arrive and stay [Source].

Yosemite National Park covers an area of 761,268 acres (3,080.74 km2) and over 3.7 million people visit each year. It was designated a World Heritage Site in 1984.

Redditor Jesse L. Summers shared this incredible shot of Yosemite National Park in California as seen from Washburn Point, at an elevation of about 7000 ft.

The shot was was taken in the early morning, just down the road from Glacier Point. Many commenters were also quick to draw comparisons of this incredible landscape shot to the popular video game Skyrim.

Yosemite National Park is a United States National Park spanning eastern portions of Tuolumne, Mariposa and Madera counties in the central eastern portion of California, United States. The park covers an area of 761,268 acres (3,080.74 km2) and reaches across the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain chain.
