Fallen Furniture uses reclaimed, authentic aircraft parts from both military and civilian aircraft, giving the pieces new life as functional works of art.

The design studio is located just outside of Bath in Somerset, England, and all pieces are custom-made to order. From chairs repurposed from old Boeing engine cowlings, to wall clocks made out of fuselage and a drinks cabinet retrofitted inside an old cluster bomb, each piece is built with a strong belief in design as applied art.

Darryl Cox Melds Fallen Branches and Old Frames Into Something New

Artist Darryl Cox melds fallen branches and old picture frames into one-of-a-kind, handmade sculptures

In an ongoing series of sculptures, artist Darryl Cox melds fallen branches and old picture frames into what he calls, Fusion Frames. These unique, one-of-a-kind pieces involve several disciplines like woodworking, painting and sculpting.

Cox first seeks out unique frames and then scours the forests of central Oregon, looking for the perfect branch to blend with each frame. Each piece is handmade by Cox alone which limits his output to roughly 20-30 artworks a year.

He currently sells his pieces through his website and Etsy store. You can also keep up with his latest developments through Facebook.

Artist Creates One-of-a-Kind Rugs That Look Like Lush Green Landscapes

At her family’s carpet factory in Buenos Aires, artist Alexandra Kehayoglou noticed there were piles of discarded thread lying around

One-of-a-Kind Rugs That Look Like Lush Green Landscapes by alexandra kehayoglou (18)

At her family’s carpet factory in Buenos Aires, visual artist Alexandra Kehayoglou noticed there were piles of discarded thread lying around. Inspired by the beautiful natural landscapes of her native Argentina, Kehayoglou used the discarded pieces to create unique wool rugs that resemble grasslands, meadows, moss and forests.

On Facebook, Alexandra adds:

The textile is weaved (handtuft system) with a pistol that the artist manipulates in racks of vertical format to create point by point the weft that will breed the final piece.

Below you will find a select gallery of her incredible one-of-a-kind wool rugs. For more, check out her work at the links below.

Artist Turns Fallen Branches Into Beautiful Furniture (14 Photos)

“No matter how beautiful or sophisticated our designs might be, the shapes we find in nature are often more mysterious and intriguing” – Sebastian Errazuriz

Sebastian Errazuriz is a Chilean born, New York based artist and designer that is highly regarded for his original and provocative works on a variety of areas and disciplines. Raised in London, Errazuriz obtained a design degree in Santiago and an MFA from New York University.

Tackling everything from political artworks to giant public art projects, experimental furniture to product design and women’s shoes to motorcycles; Errazuriz is known as a prodigious and obsessive workaholic.

In an ongoing series of ‘functional sculptures‘, Sebastian creates shelving units, coffee tables and desks from fallen branches and dead trees. The series “attempts to let the natural forms found in nature dictate the majority of design,” with subtle additions of supporting rods and glass to accentuate the tree’s natural beauty. Errazuriz adds:

“no matter how beautiful or sophisticated our designs might be, the shapes we find in nature are often more mysterious and intriguing”

Sebastian Errazuriz is represented by Cristina Grajales Gallery and Salon94 in New York. For more from the artist, check out the links below.

Guy Turns Old Tractor Into Badass Motorcycle

Slow and steady wins the race

Collectors Weekly member Rustfarm is an Ohio based mechanic that restores old motorcycles for a living.

When he came across this old tractor he decided to turn it into a working (and super badass) motorcycle. He says the project was built between 2000 and 2005 and runs and drives. The ‘tractorcycle‘ can be seen at vintage motorcycle and tractor shows in and around Ohio.

Tomas Vitanovsky Welds Animal Sculptures Out of Scrap Metal

It started with a love for cars and motorcycles. Tomas Vitanovsky started as a stunt driver before an injury ended his promising career.

It all started with a love for cars and motorcycles. Born in 1970 in the Czech Republic, Tomas Vitanovsky started his career as a motorcycle stunt driver before an injury ended his promising career.

He then shifted gears, tuning and fixing bikes to earn a living. While throwing out some used engine parts from a motorbike he had finished, Tomas got the idea of welding them together. Soon he was turning discarded bearings, gears and chains into amazing metal sculptures.

The stunt driver, turned mechanic, turned artist has now completed over 30 sculptures and he continues to improve his craft as his sculptures become more complex and intricate. Vitanovsky is currently represented by the First Art Gallery in the United Kingdom where you can find his works available for purchase.

This Used to be a Fire Hall and Its Doors are Made from Old Fire Hose

How cool is this? A former fire hall’s doors are made from old fire hose and even the nozzle was incorporated! Located in Brussels, Belgium (62, place du jeu Balle) the space is now home to a restaurant called Pin Pon.

For those curious, the pattern is apparently known as an ‘8 mad weave’ (3 over, 3 under). Below you can see some photos of the door as well as an embedded Google Map street view.

Artists Sail 1000 Nautical Miles Collecting Plastic, Transforming it Into Works of Art

They also built a solar-powered machine that melts and extrudes plastic so they could turn the discarded waste into art.

gyrecraft-by-studio-swine-(19)

Alexander Groves and Azusa Murakami of Studio Swine recently sailed 1000 nautical miles, collecting discarded plastic as they made their way from the Azores to the Canaries via the North Atlantic Gyre.

Onboard was a ‘solar extruder’, a machine the two designed and built that melts and extrudes sea plastic by harnessing the power of the sun.

The two then created five beautiful works of art from the discarded plastic in a wonderful project and film entitled, Gyrecraft. Groves and Murakami explain:

Gyrecraft is an exploration into maritime crafts which exists in every coastal or island culture around the world each with its own unique identity, utilising what the sea provides. Many of these crafts took place onboard boats during long voyages as a way of making vital repairs or passing the time at sea.

In the swirling gyre, most of the plastics have broken down into tiny fragments which are spread over massive stretches of the Ocean. Due to their size, they are incredibly difficult to recover in any large quantity making this once disposable material very precious. In the Gyrecraft collection Studio Swine uses sea plastic as a valuable and desirable material reminiscent of turtle shell and corals. The 5 objects represent the 5 major Ocean gyres. [source]

Before examining the works below, check out the embedded video first to get a feel for the project and the end results. For more from Swine, check them out at the links below.

Dan Pauly Builds Amazing Little Cabins You Might Find in a Fantasy Novel

Dan Pauly is a fourth generation wood-working artisan best known for his amazing rustic cabins made from reclaimed wood.

Dan Pauly is a fourth generation wood-working artisan best known for his amazing rustic cabins made from reclaimed wood. The Minnesota-based craftsman builds saunas, sheds, bunkies and outhouses with his signature roof and chimney.

Dan, whose great-grandfather emigrated to the US in the late 1800s, built many barns in central Minnesota, some which still stand today. On his website, Dan remarks:

As I uncover an old barn or shed, I realize that it could be the same lumber that my great-grandfather used more than 100 years ago… Until you have dismantled an old barn, you can’t imagine the painstaking effort it took from Old-World craftsmen to erect it. They were each a work of art… This wood reflects our natural heritage, and has a much richer and more attractive patina and grain than modern wood. [source]

Below you will find a small gallery of Dan’s fantastic works. To see more, check him out at the links below.
