How a Rescue Dog from Taiwan and Baby Boy from LA became Best Friends

The story of Zoey and Jasper starts in Taiwan. Seven years ago a student discovered a litter of six puppies that had been abandoned on the street corner. She took them in and cared for them for the first month, pleading for help online to find the abandoned pups new homes.

Joy, a volunteer with Animal Rescue Team managed to find foster parents for all five of Zoey’s siblings, deciding to foster Zoey herself because she was the runt and the sickliest. After moving to the United States with Zoey, a new job in China forced Joy to give up Zoey for adoption.

It wasn’t long before Zoey found a loving home with Grace Chon, a commercial animal and lifestyle photographer in LA. Enter Jasper, now 10-months old, the two have quickly formed a special bond and Grace can’t help but capture their relationship on camera, I mean, what’s a mother/animal lover/photographer to do?

The adorable duo have become a hit online and you can see track their ongoing friendship on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Instagram.

Picture of the Day: The Himalayan Dog Wanderer

himalayan-dog-on-mountain-looking-out-sebastian wahlhuetter

Photograph by SEBASTIAN WAHLHUETTER
Website | Facebook | Twitter | 500px | Prints Available

During a trek through the Himalayan outback, photographer Sebastian Wahlhuetter noticed a dog that had started following his group. As he recalls in a blog post:

“This dog just appeared out of nowhere and followed us for an entire week during our trekking trip in the Himalayan outback. He always used to sleep in front of our tent and guarded us in the nights. When I got up at 4 a.m. to climb the next 5000 m peak for sunrise he accompanied me as well. On the top he was sitting for the entire 30 minutes on this place looking straight into the countryside. I’m normally quite reserved towards dogs, but this one became a real friend to me.”

After Sebastian posted the picture to 500px it then made its way to reddit on 27 January 2014 where it reached the top spot on the front page, spreading like wildfire across the net shortly thereafter.

In fact, another redditor, u/fourfa, even came across the same dog whilst trekking through the Himalayas, sharing photos of his own.

The entire experience was a valuable one for the young photographer. You can read all about the excitement and frustration of his image going viral on his blog. For more, be sure to follow Sebastian on Facebook. Prints are also available through 500px.

10 Reasons Why ‘Dogs in Photo Booths’ is the Best Idea Ever

Lynn Terry is a professional portrait photographer based out of St. Louis, Missouri. In addition to commercial projects and family portrait photography, Lynn has been working with animals for over a decade. Her favorite dogs are pit bulls, as Lynn tells the Huffington Post:

“I have a personal affinity for the breed. They are the underdog and I want to do what I can to change public opinion about the breed. They also make some of the best faces”

Lynn first came up with the idea of a photo booth series a few years back when she photographed two pit bulls named Tucker and Pitunia (image #10 below). She has continued the series ever since, much to the delight of animal lovers everywhere. To see more great portrait photography, be sure to check out Lynn at the links below.

These Two are Winning the Internet in their Sleep

Last November, long-time blogger and mother of three, Jessica Shyba, visited an animal shelter with her kids in search of a puppy.

It was there, tucked between two siblings in the backyard of the Santa Cruz SPCA, that they saw him. Although the 7-week-old pup was the shyest of the group, he bounded instantly into her son Beau’s lap as soon as he entered their pen. They took Theo home that day.

After two days of crating—and crying—Theo decided to snuggle next to Beau during one of his afternoon naps and they’ve been napping together ever since. Posting portraits of the two napping on Instagram with the hashtag #theoandbeau was an instant hit and Shyba has seen her Instagram account explode in popularity as she approaches 315,000 followers at the time of this posting.

The surge in popularity has earned Shyba a book deal with Feiwel & Friends for two books featuring the duo. Bedtime for Theo and Beau, the first of the two volumes, is set to be published on February 4, 2015. [Source]

A Mother’s Touching Portraits of Her Sons Bonding with Animals

Elena Shumilova is mother to two young boys, Yaroslav (5) and Vanya (2). An architect by trade, the Russian artist only took up photography in 2012, wanting to capture the precious moments a mother witnesses as her children grow up.

The family owns a farm in Adreapol, Russia, where they have many animals including dogs, cats, ducks and rabbits. The special bond that can form between the animals and people is what she tries to capture through her photography. Shumilova tells Daily Mail that when she graduated University she spent a lot of time sketching and painting and it is this background that has come to define her photography and composition.

Be sure to check out her portfolio on Flickr and 500px, the dreamlike portraits are truly magical.

How Three Special Friends Stole Our Hearts and Won the Internet

harlow sage and indiana big dog small dog cute instagram (3)

On March 13, 2013, @harlowandsage launched on Instagram and the world was introduced to Harlow, a big loveable Weimaraner; and Sage, an adorable little Daschund and older sister to Harlow.

The two were inseparable and their bond tugged at the heartstrings of all that followed them on Instagram.

They lay together.

They ate together.

They even slept together.

At 13-years-old, Sage unfortunately started to experience some problems with her heart.

Sadly, on September 16, 2013, the world said goodbye to Sage.

Harlow was saddened at the loss of her older sister. Little did she know she was about to be an older sister to one very special baby dachshund.

On September 24, 2013, the world said hello to Indiana, Harlow’s new little sister.

Picture of the Day: Perfectly Timed Dogbird

PERFECTLY TIMED DOGBIRD

dogbird-perfect-timing

Photograph by Megan Whiteley

In this perfectly timed photograph of a dog and bird by Megan Whiteley, we see what looks to be a flying dog at the beach. Posted yesterday to reddit by LostInTheJapan, the image quickly reached the front page and has already been viewed over 650,000 times on Imgur. The mere prospect of flying dogs would be both adorably entertaining and wildly terrifying.

As so often happens with these hilarious photos, a fellow redditor, Your_Post_As_A_Movie, took the photo one step further, turning Dogbird into a movie poster (seen below).

Portraits of Dogs, Mid-Shake

In 2011, animal photographer Carli Davidson took a series of dogs portraits, mid-shake. Every dog owner (or unsuspecting passersby) know the shake well. What better way to rid oneself of excess water than a violent contortion of the body?

The photos were a worldwide hit garnering millions of views and putting the Portland-based photographer on the map. Earlier this week, Davidson released Shake, a 144-page hardcover book featuring sixty-one different dogs in 130 full-page portraits.

You can buy the book through your preferred online retailer by visiting shakethebook.com. To keep up with the latest from Carli, be sure to check her out at the online links below.

The drool, the stare, it’s absolutely perfect. Great capture and impeccable timing. Cheers Mr. Gage!

This is Norm, the Most Adorable Pug on Instagram

Jeremy Veach is a 23-year-old photographer from Port Orchard, Washington. Inspired by Maddie (one of the early Internet pet sensations) and Momo (featured previously), Veach and his best friend Norm take daily photos and share them on Instagram and Tumblr.

Adopted a year and a half ago when he was just eight weeks old, Norm is the adorable pug that has started to gain a large following online, with over 43,000 followers to date (and growing rapidly).

In a recent interview with Ludique, Veach explains:

“He loves pictures and gets really into it. And when there is something he doesn’t like, I can tell, and I just will move on to a new idea.”

To see more of Norm, be sure to follow the latest daily shenanigans on Instagram and Tumblr.
