Teacher Goes Viral After Holding Student’s Baby So They Could Take Notes

Dr. Nathan Alexander is a 34-year-old math professor at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia

A photo of a teacher holding a student’s baby so they could ‘take good notes’ has gone viral after another student shared the story and image on Twitter.

Dr. Nathan Alexander is a 34-year-old math professor at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. Student Wayne Hayer was unable to find a babysitter or arrange for someone to look after his daughter, Assata, so he nervously brought her to class so he wouldn’t miss the lecture.

The teacher told BuzzFeed News:

He had noticed that Hayer often had to leave to take care of his daughter. Two weeks ago, he told Hayer that he could bring his daughter with him anytime he needed to.

“Anything I can do to support you, let me know,” Alexander recalled telling the young father. “That’s what I’m here for as an educator.”

Alexander taught the entire 50-minute class while holding Assata and continued to hold her after class while helping students with questions about the lecture.

After the photo and story went viral and the student received an outpouring of support, the child’s mother also went to Facebook to express her gratitude:

This Volunteer Comes in Daily to Brush Cats and then Takes a Snooze

This is Terry, the definition of a good person

An amazing volunteer named Terry has gone viral after the Safe Haven Pet Sanctuary shared on Facebook the following message along with some priceless pics:

We are so lucky to have a human like Terry. Terry just came along one day and introduced himself. He said he’d like to brush cats. Eventually it became everyday. He brushes all of the cats, and can tell you about all of their likes and dislikes. He also accidentally falls asleep most days. We don’t mind – Cats need this! Terry is a wonderful volunteer.

Terry has been taken aback by his ‘Internet fame’ and doesn’t care for the attention, he just wants what’s best for the cats. So the shelter set up a Facebook fundraiser in his name which you can see here as well as find embedded below.

Job Post Goes Viral As Cat Sanctuary on Greek Island Seeks Caretaker

They’re looking for a ‘mature and genuinely passionate cat lover’

A cat sanctuary on the tiny Greek island of Syros (population 21,507) has been inundated with applications after posting a caretaker position on their Facebook page.

The sanctuary is home to 55 cats and is seeking a ‘mature and genuinely passionate cat lover’ to live on the sanctuary and care for the felines. The position is paid with free accommodation and they are hoping to find a long term caretaker with a minimum commitment of 6 months including 1 month of volunteering/training.

Check out the full job description below:

PAID JOB OFFER WITH CATS! (this is genuine and NOT a joke – friends, please feel free to verify!). A very special position and living circumstance on offer on a little Greek island called Syros (a small paradise no less!) for a mature and genuinely passionate cat lover who knows how to handle many cats and would love their company!! I am looking for someone who can take over the daily running of my Greek cat sanctuary in my absence. You will have 55 cats in your care and need to be able to overview them all + feed and medicate (big added bonus if you’re trained vet. nurse!). As part of the job you’ll have a fully paid (incl. water & electricity) semidetached modern tiny house with it’s own garden (direct view to the Aegean Sea!) plus a salary. The daily hours is that of a part time job (approx. 4 hours) and the salary reflects the fact that you get the house for free (with everything paid). All expenses for the cats will of course be paid incl. all veterinary care. You will be expected to take the cat to the vet in case of illness and therefore will need to be able to drive a manual car. We are located in a secluded nature preserved area which is very tranquil and quiet in winter time but busy during the summer. You’ll no doubt thrive best if you are the type of person who appreciates nature and likes tranquility – and rest comfortably in your own company. That said, you’ll never feel lonely in the company of the cats and you’ll be expected to live with a small handful of cats in your house. From experience the job is most suitable for someone 45+ years of age, who’s responsible, reliable, honest, practically inclined – and really, with a heart of gold! Apart from feeding the cats the cats will also need heaps of love and attention. You will at times be expected to trap or handle a feral or non-sociable cat, so knowing something about a cats psychology too is important + cat-whispering skills should come natural to you. The job is long term but a minimum of 6 months is required with a 1 month intro at the beginning of October (you will be volunteering for the first 2-4 weeks but with free accommodation). The paid job starts on November 1st 2018. To get an accurate idea of the salary, please follow this link to see an average Greek salary and keep in mind this is a part time job WITH house, water & electricity included for free! https://tradingeconomics.com/greece/wages Please send your application with a photo and relevant information to joanbowell@yahoo.com We will look through all the applications and do Skype calls with the most suitable candidates at the end of August. PLEASE SHARE THIS POST FAR AND WIDE!! P.s. Please don’t send concerned messages. All is well and more will be revealed at some later point! ❤️

Woman Rescues Wingless Queen Bee; Builds Her a Tiny Garden to Live Out Final Days

A sweet and uplifting story for once

Last Spring, Fiona Presly was gardening outside her home in Scotland when she noticed a queen bumblebee at her feet. She quickly sensed that something wasn’t right as the bee seemed shaky and disoriented.

Afraid she might get stepped on, Fiona bent down and noticed the queen bee had no wings, she tells The Dodo.

Not sure how else to help, Presly offered the bee some sugar water and set her on some flowers, hoping she’d be able to eventually manage on her own. When she checked the spot a few hours later, however, she found the bee hadn’t budged. To make matters worse, a heavy storm was brewing — so Presly went one step further:

“I took her inside that night, kept her warm and fed her more,” she said. “I thought I would put her out the next day, but the weather was bad then too. So I kept her inside.” [source]

Now in recovery, Presly reached out to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust for help. They told her it was likely she had a virus known to cause wing development issues. Unable to fly, the chances of survival were slim.

Saddened, Presly decided that she would try to help the bee, making her a tiny private garden to live out her final days.

Fiona aptly named her new friend ‘Bee’ and built her a private little garden to pollinate. She enclosed the garden in netting so her winged counterparts couldn’t swoop in and deplete the garden.

Fiona continued to check on her friend daily, giving her sugar water whenever she seemed weak. Bee seemed to be adjusting to her new home and getting more and more comfortable around her new ‘friend’. [source]

As the days continued, Fiona noticed Bee would emerge from the foliage every time she dropped by the enclosure. “She’d walk toward me and crawl on my hand,” Presly said.

“She seemed so happy to see me. It made me stop and think — there’s something going on here.” [source]

According to the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, queens typically spend spring and summer building a nest, mating, and starting a colony — eventually dying at the approach of Autumn.

Under Fiona’s care, Bee had outlived them all, but five months after being rescued Bee fell asleep one last time, never again to wake.

“I was sad when she died, but I knew it was going to happen. She was already older than she should have been,” Presley said. “It had been very special to stay with a wee creature, like Bee. The fact that she lived more than just a few weeks amazed me. That was rewarding in itself.”

Afterward, Presly buried Bee’s body in her garden — joined by a favorite flower. [source]
